As many of you may already know, Industry Canada’s NUANS® system has undergone large scale changes over the past few weeks. The process has required a period of adjustment for all concerned. As part of this new solution there have been a number of concerns raised regarding some of the results being returned (for example, certain names that exist within the database are not always being properly sorted.)
What we’re doing about it
For most of you, it’s been business as usual. Thanks to our decades-worth of name searching experience and the expertise of our search clerks, we have identified and proactively mitigated a number of potential issues with the NUANS® system, allowing you to continue working with confidence;
In addition, we are performing additional searches to mitigate the possibility of data-related issues;
As your trusted partner, we have engaged with Industry Canada as well as Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada in order to request a discussion forum to rectify all issues and provide a communication plan that will better address the current concerns around the new NUANS® system;
What should you do?
Please continue to provide us with your search requests. Please provide as much additional information relating to the proposed name as possible, including any associated registrations or incorporations, as well as the intended line of business;
For the searches where you would prefer an extra level of diligence, we continue to offer our Comprehensive Name Search, a detailed search that goes beyond the NUANS® database – please contact us for further information on this report.
As we continue to work with the relevant authorities, we will keep you informed as to our progress.
